There are so many health benefits to getting outside. Just google the benefits of sunshine and so many articles appear. That is wonderful, except where are you supposed to go to slow down, unwind to soak in the vitamin d and gem killing rays while keeping your family safe. Well your own backyard seems a logical
I am lucky. I am married to a gardener who loves to build me places to sit, and ponds for my dog to lazily lay and cool his black body happily in the heat of the day. Being a Scotchman by heritage gave him a natural build for labor with his broad shoulders and strong hands.
This job has let me meet many other Scottish people called to him by the lure of the company name, Scottish Gardener, and many more ask what is it that makes a garden in Calgary Scottish. He always reply's we are cheep and hard working, and I role my eyes. At least you know he is honest. But I don't like sharing my backyard builder for a penny. I exaggerate. To me a Scottish garden is hardy like the man who builds it. It is strong to withstand the harsh climate, and planted with intent of beauty and for ease of care. And of course it gives you a relaxing place to sit and enjoy the sun.
Well here I find myself navigating the world of computer rather than planning my year to come. I like many people are opening emails everyday to further and further shut downs. I am thankful that I and my family are healthy. And I know we are creative people who can recreate gardening in an era where non essential services are closed.
So this is my first official post. I have tried to post old college papers (they are here somewhere if you are more tech savvy than I and stumble your way around). Today I am trying to start 6 months of writing for ten minutes. I don't know if anyone will read these. I hope you might out there in your own locked down worlds, but please know that I am not a writer. I am a mother, an artist, a gardener, and a friend. I am environmentally concerned (aren't we all) and I have strong beliefs that getting outside, engaging with world around us, is the healthiest most fulfilling way to live.
So what does it mean to be a Scottish Gardener. We shall find out. What does it mean to engage with the world? I will explore that too. And how can I share my journey of discovery with the internet. I will let you know more tomorrow.
